Where We Began

Dogs have always been close to my heart, and a way of life. I grew up in a household where raising puppies was second nature, and competition dog training was a weekly occurrence for us. To me dogs are family.

When I started working on Laurie’s farm, naturally I gravitated to her kennel and her dogs. After a few years, I assumed a managing role in her kennel and with her dogs, furthering my experience in raising and working with dogs. My mother co-founded Laurie’s kennel business with her own dogs living, on the farm with Laurie’s, so a few years after my mom retired from dog breeding, I started working there and was able to work same bloodlines she raised.

When it was time for Laurie to retire from dog breeding, I was presented with the incredible opportunity to take over the reins, continuing to raise exceptional puppies under my own business. I take this very seriously because I know all to well how important a dog is to a family; and at the end of the day, they are part of the family. I am proud to continue to use the over a decade of experience in dogs that my Mom and Laurie posses to raise a new generation of dogs with unmatched quality.

This is not a guessing game on how to raise dogs to me. I’m not doing anything new or fancy, and putting it simply I’m just doing what has already worked for over decided, and continuing to do it well. I am also very lucky that both my Mom and Laurie still play an extremely active roles in helping how I run things. Each of our puppies is backed by decades of experience, continuing education, and the knowledge we share to work together.

In July of 2021 I was presented with a unique opportunity to purchase a property just a few miles north of my current location. Early that September I closed on the purchase of that property with the intent to move myself, and my business to this exciting new location. A lot of work and preparation has gone into building out this new kennel facility to make sure I maintain the same high standard of care for my dogs. As of Late October 2022 North Iowa Puppies LLC is now located at this new acreage.

Our Breeding Practices & Facility Standards

North Iowa Puppies LLC

At North Iowa Puppies, we believe responsible breeding begins with responsible care. Every part of our program is designed to provide comfort, safety, and the kind of healthy start every dog deserves. All of our dogs have indoor and outdoor access through dog doors, allowing them to move freely throughout the day. They receive clean water and consistent feeding through automated systems, helping maintain routine and reliability. Inside, each area is fully climate-controlled with both heating and air conditioning, along with ventilation that balances temperature, humidity, and air quality throughout the year. Pregnant and nursing mothers are moved into a quieter, private suite to reduce stress and provide a calm, peaceful space for raising their puppies. We follow a veterinarian-approved plan for exercise and enrichment that includes daily social interaction, access to appropriate toys, and activities that promote both physical and mental stimulation. Every adult dog is examined annually by a licensed veterinarian to ensure they remain healthy and sound for breeding. Cleanliness and biosecurity are a top priority. Our facility follows strict daily cleaning protocols and preventive measures to minimize the risk of outside pathogens. To help maintain these standards, we don’t bring visitors through the dog housing areas—but we’ve created a better solution. To provide a great experience for both our dogs and our customers, we’ve built a dedicated office space specifically for puppy visits. Families can meet the puppy they’re interested in within a calm, welcoming environment—one on one, with no distractions. Each visit is scheduled by appointment, one family at a time, giving us time to go over care instructions, answer questions, and help you feel confident and prepared. This setup also helps us preserve the routine of our adult dogs, reduce stress, and maintain strong biosecurity for the whole facility. It allows us to meet insurance and liability requirements while still giving our customers a personal and meaningful experience. North Iowa Puppies LLC is licensed and inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and we also hold a permit from the Iowa Department of Agriculture. While USDA-licensed facilities are exempt from Iowa inspections due to overlapping regulations, I invited the Iowa Department of Agriculture to conduct a voluntary consultation when I moved into my current facility in 2022. We keep thorough veterinary and health records for every dog and puppy in our care, and we welcome oversight from our licensing agencies. We’re committed not just to raising healthy puppies, but to placing them in loving, well-prepared homes—and we remain a resource to our buyers long after the sale. I started North Iowa Puppies with a simple goal: to raise quality puppies the right way, with integrity, care, and respect for the animals I work with every day.

Laurie Brue- Founder

I was born not far from my present farm on a crop/beef farm and have always been was working with animals. I have shown hunter/jumper horses and presently am teaching the sport to all age groups.     My dogs and horses are an integral part of my life.

Having them in my life has given me a passion to give every family that same opportunity  to have them be part of their lives. I believe every family is made whole with man's best friend. I have been breeding dogs for two decades and have the experience to bring great puppies into every home.

We breed with the highest standards to not only ensure that your puppy lives a healthy and full life, but to guarantee our dogs have happy full lives with purpose.
